Brief 5 Jam Shop Logo/Labels

Before I could start working on the designs for the jar labels, or other visuals, I wanted to come up with the name and logo for the shop.

I spent a lot of time thinking and asking people about jam related puns, but after receiving a few (ridiculous) options, I thought further about what I wanted the brand to say. While a humorous name would be memorable, it was difficult to think of something that hadn't been thought of before.

After this I concluded that the brand would be a little more sophisticated than that, and with the rustic, homemade theme I wanted to embody, I started thinking of changing the language. I thought would lend some element of culture to the brand, which would fit with the 'sophisticated' aspect. I landed on trying out some French translations, as I do sometimes associate jams with croissants and other pastries.

• Honey - miel
• Rustic - rustique
• Breakfast - petit dejeuner
• Sweet - doux

While perhaps not as applicable to the brand as the translations for jam or preserves, the word that I can really see being the brand name is Miel (honey). I like the way it rolls of the tongue, and also sounds similar to meal, given that I was considering the store would feature a cafe.

In order to keep it simple I wanted to just use the name as the logo, given that it already has some depth in it. I tried out some different typefaces with the word to see which complimented the letters most.

The two below are the two that I thought were best for the brand. They are each pretty different to each other, the first Kino MT I find to be a bit 'cooler' than the second, Wolf in the City, but I found that I actually don't want it to look particularly cool or edgy, because it's a shop selling comfort as a lot of people find jam is a comfort food. In light of this I went with the second option, as it also gives me more scope to make the brand more traditional.

From here I started to incorporate some other elements to the logo to be shown across different planes:

After sorting out a logo I started on the jar label designs using Izzy's illustrations, which I want to use as the background for the labels, depending on each flavour. The jars I wanted to use were quite small so the labels only came out to about 2x7 inches.

After using Copperplate for the 'handmade' and flavour, I didn't want to put it all over the label making it more prominent than the Miel part, so to highlight 'Honey and Preserves' I used Nexa Light, which is very simple and easy to read.
